PERS and Homecare Compatibility

I have a personal emergency response (PERS) pendant. Do I really need another device?
The emergency response pendant is important for when an emergency occurs. The QuietCaresystem provides a way to spot problems before they become emergencies.

Does this system work with Personal Emergency Response (Pendant) Systems?
Absolutely. Because emergencies and accidents can occur without warning, a personal emergency response pendant provides a valuable complementary service to QuietCare. In fact, that is why we offer Quiet Care Plus, which integrates the PERS pendant system into QuietCare tracking.

A homecare worker visits me 3 times a week. Why do I need QuietCare?
Think of QuietCare as the home care between visits! A worker who comes three times of week is valuable, but won't be able to be there for seniors during those crucial nighttime hours when falls and illness often occurs.

How the Service Works

Does the QuietCareSystem detect falls?
The QuietCareSystem indicates possible bathroom falls (the most common) by analyzing data from the activity sensors. For example, if a person remains in the bathroom for more than one hour, the caregiver or monitoring center receives a red alert advising of the possibility of a fall. The caregiver or monitoring center then initiates their response protocol.

Can my senior parent get emergency help through the QuietCare System?
Caregivers can be alerted of potential in-home emergencies through text messaging, phone calls, emails, and more. In the case of Quiet Care and Quiet Care Plus systems, our professional representatives will first try to reach your parents to determine if they need help. If they do, we will notify the designated responders.

Does QuietCare call me if my loved one may have an emergency?
Yes. If you subscribe to either QuietCare or QuietCare Plus, a call center professional will call you and alert you to the possible emergency.

Does QuietCare intrude on personal privacy?
There are no cameras or microphones to capture your actions. The sensors only detect movement-if you have gotten out of bed in the morning, have safely navigated the bathroom, and are active. The activity sensors empower seniors who may otherwise be candidates for higher levels of attention to live freely and independently without compromising their safety.

Will my pet interfere with the QuietCare System?
Most likely not, since the sensors are mounted around shoulder level. However, a large pet might trigger the sensors. We recommend that you speak to a QuietCare representative about the use of the system in your case.

Who pays for the phone calls that the communicator makes to the QuietCare server?
Not you or your loved one! All calls go through our toll-free number.

How does installation work?
QuietCare is professionally installed. Although the system is elegantly simple, the position of each activity sensor is customized to the resident's home and daily routine.

Will QuietCare require a lot of changes in my home?
Not at all. The system has been designed to blend in as much as possible. The activity detectors- which are about 3 inches high and 1 inch wide- are typically attached to the walls. The small receiver (about the size of a deck of cards with a small antenna) also attaches to the wall. The book-sized communicator is mounted beside it or sits on the floor. The communicator simply plugs into a wall socket and phone jack. No wiring or drilling is necessary.

If I move, can I take my QuietCareSystem with me?
Certainly! However, your system should be reinstalled by a trained professional. Call QuietCare customer service at 1-800-658-6939 for more information and advice.

Does my older relative need a computer at home?
No, everything you need is already incorporated in the QuietCareSystem, including sensors, a receiver, and a communicator. The communicator, which transmits the information to our secure computer, needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet (wall socket) and into an existing phone jack. No special phone line or computer hook-up is necessary.

Do I need a computer to receive notification and reports?
Being able to access your personalized web page will always provide the most complete and up to date information on your loved one's status. However, you may also receive phone calls, text messages, and pager alerts that will keep you abreast of any significant changes in their condition that indicate potential health risks.

Who can access the QuietCare reports?
The QuietCare web site is password-protected for your privacy. You control who has access to the passwords and who will receive alerts. The notification system on the website can be configured to automatically email alerts to family members and healthcare professionals.

Is the information on my loved ones treated confidentially?
Absolutely. Only you and those you authorize can view the information that is gathered. In fact, we adhere to a strict privacy policy.
